INFORMATION ABOUT PANAMA
The
word “Panamá” is a pre columbine origin word
which means “abundance of fish, butterflies and
birds”. Panama’s rich biodiversity is granted to the
singular geographic shape and position of the
isthmus.
GEOGRAPHY OF PANAMA
Panama has a total area of 29,157 square miles. Its
cordillera with picks which are over 8,000 feet
above sea level, are the spine of this “S” shaped
country. The topography varies from the mountains
all the way to the Caribbean coast to the small
hills and its vast savannahs towards the Pacific.
Tropical rain forest is the dominant scene in the
Canal Zone, Caribbean Coast and half of the eastern
part of the country. More than half of Panama is
still covered by forest.
PANAMÁ
"LA VIEJA"

Panama "La Vieja" was the firs
European assent in the Pacific area. It was
founded by Pedrarias Dávila August 15, 1519. All
the gold from Perú was transported through the
Old City to Portobello and Nombre de Dios, where
it was shipped to Spain. Panama La Vieja offers
its visitors a Museum and a Souvenir market.

THE
"CASCO ANTIGUO"

It was declared human patrimony by UNESCO in
1997. Its importance is mainly based on the
variety of architectonics styles present in each
of the buildings still in this area.
